At the moment, 1,461 Russian citizens have been taken out of Kazakhstan by military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported. It is noted that on January 9, 1,422 citizens were delivered to Moscow on board military aircraft, and 14 Russians also landed in Yekaterinburg.
Russian tourists arrived in Alma-Ata with the aim of spending New Year’s holidays there or at sports camps.
“As a result of the aggravation of the situation and the closure of the Almaty international airport, Russian tourists had to stay in the city’s hotels. While in hotels, they turned to the leadership of the Russian contingent of the peacekeeping forces, asking for help in delivering them to the territory of the Russian Federation”, – reported in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Earlier it was reported that Aeroflot extended the cancellation of flights to Kazakhstan. The sale of tickets for its own flights in both directions, scheduled for January 20-21, was also suspended.
Mass protests began in Kazakhstan on January 2 due to a sharp increase in gas prices. Since January 4, protesters clashed with the police in Alma-Ata and a number of other cities. The protesters demanded that the authorities immediately change the political regime in the country.
