About 40 migrants from Afghanistan, who do not have refugee status in Azerbaijan, tried to hold a protest action in a Baku park, demanding that UN representatives pay attention to their problems. The security forces took the participants of the unauthorized action out of the park, police said.
Migrants from Afghanistan tried today to hold a protest in the park in Baku, but the police stopped it, said the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry, Ehsan Zakhidov.
According to him, about 40 people tried to take part in the action. “The participants demanded that the representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Azerbaijan pay more attention to them. Since the action was unauthorized, the police held preventive conversations with the migrants. Then the participants of the action were taken away from the territory,” Zakhidov quotes Oxu.Az.
The protesters arrived in Azerbaijan not in connection with the latest events in Afghanistan, but in previous years. Many of them came to the country to then leave for Europe, Turan news agency informs today.
