The results of early presidential elections have been announced in Turkmenistan. The son of the outgoing president, Serdar Berdymukhammedov, won 72.97 percent of the vote, according to official results. Earlier it was reported that in one of the velayats a large number of votes were cast for other candidates, in connection with which the ballots were massively substituted in favor of the “correct” candidate.
On March 15, the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan announced the results of early presidential elections. Thus, according to the official result, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the son of outgoing President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, was elected as the next president, gaining 72.97 percent of the vote.
Eight previously unknown candidates participated in the early elections along with Serdar Berdimuhamedov. However, Khydyr Nunnayev, who came in second, won 11.09 percent of the vote. Agadzhan Bekmyradov, who holds the post of deputy hyakim of the Mary velayat, won 7.22 percent of the vote.
