Not much time has passed and the concerns about the border, expressed in recent days by the residents of the border, as well as some analysts and observers on social networks, have already begun to be justified.
Despite the meeting on April 12 of the heads of the Sughd region of Tajikistan and the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan at the Guliston-Isfara border crossing, where security and irrigation issues were discussed, in the evening of the same day there was a shootout between the border guards.
The incident occurred at the border checkpoint of Khistevarz Jamoat Bobojon, Gafurov district, Sughd region, and the village of Borboduk, Leylak district, Batken region. As a result, the Tajik border guard, 27-year-old Zoir Saidumarov, died. There were also injuries on both sides.
Fears about the border grow as the anniversary of the bloody armed clashes approaches (April 29, 2021). Especially when there are events and actions similar to the days preceding last year’s incident.
