The European Commission promises to prepare an official opinion as soon as possible on Ukraine’s readiness to become a candidate for EU membership.
This was announced on Monday, March 21, by EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Vargei, European Truth reports.
“The EU continues to support Ukraine and its people by providing assistance. And we have started working on providing an opinion on the basis of Ukraine’s application for membership. We will work as soon as we can,” Vargei wrote.
As UNIAN reported, on February 28, President Vladimir Zelensky signed an application for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
On March 1, the European Parliament supported a resolution granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union. This resolution is now being forwarded to the decision-making bodies of the European Union and to all the member states of the community. The document also condemns Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The resolution is of a recommendatory nature.
