Gunmen hijacked a Ukrainian plane in Afghanistan last Sunday .
Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Yenin told Public Radio about this.
“Last Sunday, our plane was hijacked by other people. They were armed, including with firearms. On Tuesday, the plane was actually stolen from us – it flew to Iran with an unknown group of passengers on board instead of taking the Ukrainians,” Yenin said.
Three more attempts to evacuate Ukrainians also failed – people simply could not get to the airport.
According to Enin, last week the entire diplomatic service worked in a “crash test” mode.
Evacuation of Ukrainians from Kabul
After August 15, the Taliban terrorist movement seized all major cities in Afghanistan, including Kabul. In this regard, the United States and other countries were forced to intensify the evacuation of their citizens. The airport itself is under the protection of the US military and their allies.
Ukraine has previously evacuated 79 citizens from Afghanistan from six countries: Ukraine, Afghanistan, Belarus, the Netherlands, Croatia and Tajikistan.
On August 22, another 83 people, including 31 Ukrainians, were evacuated by an IL-76MD military transport aircraft.
