The Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan is monitoring the situation in Afghanistan around the clock and is on constant alert, Deputy Defence Minister Timur Dandybaev said during a briefing at the Central Communications Service, VLAST.KZ reported.
“The current military-political situation in Afghanistan is rather complicated. It is difficult to make predictions at this stage. The Ministry of Defence is constantly updating information on the situation around Afghanistan, including in cooperation with the defence departments of foreign partners and regional organizations. Therefore, we cannot yet say anything concretely in this direction. We monitor the situation, take appropriate measures and are in a waiting mode, ”Dandybaev said.
The military of Kazakhstan are “in a state of constant combat readiness”, however, in order to send them to the border with Afghanistan, a number of conditions are necessary – one of the parties appeals to the CSTO headquarters, a decision at the level of the collective security council and the ratification of the relevant agreement by the country’s parliament.
“If these conditions are met, we will be ready to fulfil our international obligations,” the vice minister stressed.
On July 7, at a meeting of the CSTO Permanent Council, Tajikistan called on allies in the organidation to help cope with the challenges from Afghanistan, since it is difficult for the country to cope with them alone. Tajikistan believes that the situation requires an “adequate response” from the CSTO, and “in this context, the need to ensure the implementation of the decision of the Collective Security Council of September 23, 2013” On rendering assistance to the Republic of Tajikistan in strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border “remains relevant.” In this regard, the Tajik side called on the CSTO countries “to contribute to the full implementation of this document.”
