On Thursday, during the plenary session, the Senate adopted the law “On the Ratification of the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Administrative Matters in the Sphere of the Exchange of Personal Data.” As First Deputy Interior Minister Marat Kozhaev noted, the CIS member states will be able to exchange information and identify dual citizenship, real estate, and even bring them to criminal or administrative liability.
“The ratification of the agreement will allow receiving information from the Commonwealth countries about the presence or absence of citizenship, issued identity documents, persons registered with migration; visas issued to foreigners for entry and stay in these countries, real estate or property obligations; bringing to criminal or administrative responsibility. This is especially relevant in the framework of the ongoing work to identify the facts of dual citizenship,” said Kozhaev.
In addition, according to him, the agreement creates additional conditions for confirming the identity of a person in case of loss of identity documents obtained in another country; establishing the place of residence of a person abroad. At the same time, information about the prosecution of persons for committing an administrative or criminal offence can be used as part of the provision of legal assistance.
