The US Embassy in Armenia called for the release of Armenian prisoners convicted in Azerbaijan from detention. This was stated at the meeting of the US Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia Lynn Tracy with the relatives of the Armenian servicemen captured in 2020 and 2021.
Tracy’s meeting with the relatives of the prisoners took place on March 29, a message about this appeared on the Facebook page of the American embassy in Yerevan on Tuesday.
It is noted that some of the Armenian prisoners of war were sentenced by Azerbaijani courts to long terms of imprisonment, and the fate of some of them is currently unknown.
According to the press release, human rights issues were at the center of the discussion, in accordance with the 8th paragraph of the trilateral ceasefire statement of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia of November 9, 2020, which provides for the exchange of prisoners of war, hostages and other detainees, the bodies of the dead as well as the Geneva Convention.
