German airline Lufthansa will suspend all flights to and from Kiev from February 21 to 28. Flights to Kyiv are also stopped by Swiss Airlines and Austrian Airlines.
In particular, Lufthansa flies from Frankfurt to Kyiv and Lviv and from Munich to Kyiv. “Lufthansa is constantly monitoring the situation and will decide on further flights later,” the airline said in a statement.
In case of flight cancellation, passengers are advised to contact the Lufthansa Service Center or a travel agency to discuss further travel plans.
Oleksiy Makeyev, Ukraine’s special envoy for sanctions policy, wrote on Twitter that he would like to hear from the airline the reasons for this decision.
“It would be great to have the words ‘Russian threats of invasion of Ukraine’ in your explanations. Will you also reduce flights to Moscow?” He wrote.
Austrian Airlines flies from Vienna to Kyiv, Lviv and Odessa. The airline’s press service told avianews.com that flights to Kyiv and Odessa will be suspended until the end of February. On February 20, Austrian Airlines will operate special flights from Kyiv and Odessa to transport passengers. The Vienna-Lviv flights will continue as usual, the press service said.
In addition, the Swiss airline Swiss Airlines also announced the cancellation of flights on its only route to Ukraine Kiev-Zurich until February 28. Moreover, the company refused to use the sky over Ukraine for transit flights.
