President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with the heads of government of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, Akorda reports. He invited the countries of the union to jointly develop economic measures against the backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions.
“Our economic union is understandably concerned about the increased political confrontation due to the sanctions conflict and the negative consequences for the economies and financial systems of our countries. We in Kazakhstan are taking anti-crisis measures, this is only the beginning, there is very serious and difficult work ahead. I suppose that we could carry out this work in concert together with our colleagues in the Eurasian Economic Union. Given the close interconnection of economic, financial and industrial systems, I believe that a working group should be created within the union to assess risks and develop economic measures aimed at mitigating negative consequences,” Tokayev said.
He proposed organizing this group at the level of economic departments with the participation of financial regulators. And the coordinating work should be undertaken by the Eurasian Economic Commission.
