Georgia's ruling Georgian Dream party and some opposition leaders signed an EU-mediated agreement late on Monday, in a bid to end a political crisis that threatens to derail its already vulnerable economy.

The arrests of two men in Georgia charged with attempting to peddle radioactive materials to would-be buyers is the latest in a string of such incidents spanning almost two decades.

Georgia placed Eurobonds worth $500 million with a maturity of five years on the London Stock Exchange after receiving a demand for more than $2 billion, Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili said.

Georgia's opposition leader Nika Melia, whose arrest earlier this year plunged a country already crippled by the economic consequences of COVID-19 into a political crisis, will continue to await a final verdict in custody.
