On December 7, a meeting of the leaders of the Lebap velayat and etraps was held in the Rukhyet palace of the city of Turkmenabat. The leadership of the region’s law enforcement agencies also took part in it, according to a source in the Chronicle of Turkmenistan.

In addition to issues related to the celebration of the Day of Neutrality and the New Year, they discussed the renaming of settlements, which are named in honor of the first president of the country, Saparmurat Niyazov.

The renaming is slated to begin in 2022 and occur gradually over a year or more. According to the idea of ​​the authorities, for this, an initiative should come from below, that is, at first the elders will probably send written appeals to the khyakimliks with a request to rename the settlement, agricultural association or organization, giving it the name of a hero from these places who died in the war, a hero of labor, a worker of arts or leader.
