On Sunday, November 7, the UN Children’s Fund – UNICEF – delivered to Ukraine 2,930,300 doses of mRNA vaccine against COVID-19 produced by Moderna .
This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Health .
Ukraine receives vaccines free of charge through COVAX, an international community solidarity initiative to facilitate access to effective and safe COVID-19 vaccines for all countries.
“Currently, 11 million Ukrainians have received at least one dose of the vaccine from COVID-19. Today, vaccination is primarily the responsibility of everyone and others… Moderna is the fourth vaccine available in Ukraine for vaccination against COVID-19,” the press quoted him as saying. -service of the Minister of Health Victor Lyashko.
It is noted that in total, under COVAX, together with this supply, UNICEF delivered 7,415,810 doses of vaccines from various manufacturers (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Sinovac).
The head of the UNICEF office in Ukraine, Murat Shahin, stressed that vaccination is the only way to protect lives from COVID-19 and called on all Ukrainians to take advantage of this protection.
According to him, on the other hand, vaccinated people are 5 times less likely to become infected and have more than 10 times lower risk of hospitalization than unvaccinated people. He noted that, according to the latest UNICEF survey, 42% of Ukrainians who have not yet been vaccinated are ready to be vaccinated.
WHO Representative and Head of the WHO Office in Ukraine Jarno Habicht stressed that there are now enough vaccines in Ukraine that allow 100,000 people to be vaccinated every day.
