Uzbekistan ranked first in the shadow economy in Central Asia-TOTAL.KZ

In 2019, the share of the shadow economy in Uzbekistan’s GDP was 52.11%, TOTAL.KZ reported, citing the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
As reported, according to the World Bank experts, Uzbekistan ranks first in Central Asia in terms of the share of the shadow economy.
For comparison: in Tajikistan, this indicator is 40.76%, in Kazakhstan – 36.65%, in Kyrgyzstan – 30.53%.
According to the official report, the shadow economy in Uzbekistan has been growing since 2003. In particular, in 2003 the level of the shadow economy was 35%, and in 2011–2017 – 45–50%.
