Uzbekistan’s current account deficit rose to $5.1 billion in the first ten months of 2021, the central bank said.
In January-September the current account deficit was $5.3 billion, while in the first quarter it was $2.1 billion.
Separately, the central bank reported that total external debt had increased by 11 percent or $3.7 billion and as of October 1 and amounted to $37.6 billion. Public debt rose by 7 percent or $1.5 billion from the beginning of the year and amounted to $22.9 billion, while the non-state external debt increased by 18 percent or $2.2 billion and reached $14.7 billion.
By the end of the reporting period, the country’s assets in foreign currency amounted to $68.3 billion, and the volume of external liabilities was $51.4 billion.
Since the beginning of the year, the net investment position of the country has decreased by 17 percent ($3.4 billion) and as of October 1 amounted to $16.9 billion.
