The US Agency for Defense Security Cooperation has approved a possible $30 million sale of Javelin missiles and related equipment to Georgia. The agency reported this to Congress today.
According to the agency, the Georgian government has requested the purchase of 82 Javelin FGM-148 anti-tank guided missiles and 46 guided launchers (CLUs).
“The proposed sale will strengthen US foreign policy and national security by improving Georgia’s security. Georgia can easily integrate this system with its armed forces. Georgia is a strategic partner and makes a significant contribution to security and stability in the region. The Javelin system will help Georgia strengthen its defenses and protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The proposed sale and support of this equipment will not change the basic military balance in the region,” the Agency for Security and Defense Cooperation said in a statement.
The Javelin is an American anti-tank missile system. The first batch of installations was delivered to Georgia in January 2018.
